Custom Miata conversions turn mass-market sports cars into head-tuning mini-exotics.
Jim Simpson has been converting Miatas into traffic stopping sports cars with Ferrari styling cues at his Clinton, WA shop since the mid-1990s. It all started in 1992 when he was commissioned by Nardi to build the Blue Ray III using a shortened Mazda 929 sedan platform. Nardi, famous for its steering wheels found on vintage Ferrari, Maserati and other sports-luxury-exotics, originally commissioned Blue Ray I & II concept cars in 1958-1959. Simpson Design has produced close to 100 Mazda Miata Italias.
