Powering the 2012 Jeep Wrangler is a highly capable 3.6 liter V6 engine. Peak power tops out at 285 horsepower and 260 pound-foot of torque. With four-wheel-drive and a six-speed manual transmission, the Wrangler achieves an EPA-estimated 21 mpg on the highway. A five-speed automatic transmission is available. Rubicon models gain a high-end transfer case that provides the Wrangler with extra-low gearing for tough spots off the road.
When it comes to off-road capability, the Wrangler delivers. The base model comes with an 8.8 inch ground clearance, while Rubicon models come with 10.2 inches of clearance for even better off-road capability. Rubicon models are the most off-road capable, with several features that can take the Wrangler pretty much anywhere imaginable. More heavy-duty axles and 32-inch tires help tackle all kinds of obstacles, as does a disconnecting front sway bar. Rubicon models also come with electronic locking front and rear differentials and rock rails.
For the Wrangler’s interior, buyers have some options. Two-door models come with four seats, while the four-door Unlimited models provide seating for up to five passengers. Everything inside the Wrangler is made to be wiped down after snow, mud, dirt and anything else found during off-road journeys are tracked inside. Still, Jeep offers some standard creature comforts like cruise control, a six-speaker sound system and an auxiliary jack for plugging in an MP3 player. Buyers who option for Unlimited models gain air conditioning. A Power Convenience option package provides keyless entry, satellite radio, heated and powered side mirrors, power windows and locks as well as a steering wheel wrapped in leather. Bluetooth, leather seats, automatic climate control and heated front seats are all optional equipment.
