For many enthusiasts, nothing beats the sights & sounds of quarter-mile competition during the 1960s and early-1970s.
Nitro fumes and smoke filled the air at drag strips from coast to coast during what many consider the golden days of drag racing. Modified Production, above, (A/MP Motion Camaro) Super/Stock & FX door slammers shared the shows with Gassers and fuel-burning dragsters, coupes and roadsters, top, (Pacers AA/FA Tasmanian Devil). Then Funny Cars came along and created a whole new fan base and level of excitement.
Today, cars are quicker and faster thanks to technology and tire development. However, the 1960s & 1970s were truly the good old days.
NOTE: Both the George-Snizek-driven Hemi fueler and Dennis-Ferrara-driven big-block Camaro, above, were NHRA National Record Holders and sponsored by CARS Magazine.
