JAGUAR F-TYPE SVR: A RIGHT, PROPER SUPERCAR!

- Rabu, 27 Januari 2016 No Comments

Capable of accelerating to 200 mph, the new F-TYPE SVR is the first Jaguar to wear the SVR badge and has been developed to exploit the two-seat aluminum sports car’s full potential while retaining its day-to-day usability.

The new ‘17 Jaguar F-TYPE SVR will make its global debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show on March 1, 2016 and will go on sale in summer-2016. Lighter, faster and more powerful, the new F-TYPE SVR takes performance, dynamics and driver involvement to a new level yet retains the comfort and duality of character inherent to all Jaguar cars.

“The new F-TYPE SVR is the first series production Jaguar to be developed by Special Vehicle Operations and benefits from everything we know about precision engineering, performance and design,” said John Edwards, Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations. “The result is a 200-mph, all-weather Supercar that you can drive every day. And, we even made a convertible version so that enthusiasts can revel in the sound from the new titanium exhaust system.”

The new F-TYPE SVR will join the 2017 Model Year F-TYPE Coupe and Convertible models, comprising of the F-TYPE, F-TYPE Premium, F-TYPE S, F-TYPE British Design Edition

and F-TYPE R.

The 2012 Lexus LFA

- Jumat, 24 Juli 2015 No Comments
The Lexus LFA represents the pinnacle of Lexus engineering and performance. On the outside, the LFA is wrapped in a body that communicates the car’s aggressive and athletic nature. Since a very limited number of the car was made, anyone lucky enough to own one is part of a highly exclusive club many other car enthusiasts would kill to be a part of.

Part of the secret of the 2012 Lexus LFA’s potency is its advanced engine. The 4.8 liter V10 works with a six speed automated manual transmission, producing a peak 552 horsepower at 8,700 RPM and 354 pound-foot of torque at 6,800 RPM. Even though the engine is located in the front of the car, it sits behind the front axle, creating a balance that allows drivers to maneuver the car with grace.

The other part of the LFA’s brutal acceleration is its low curb weight. Weighing in at a scant 3,263 pounds, the V10 engine block does not have to do as much work as engines in competing cars. The car’s chassis, steering wheel, seats, most of the body panels and the overall body structure are both constructed of carbon fiber, providing good rigidity without the weight of metal alloys. The result is a 0 to 60 mile per hour acceleration of a mere 3.9 seconds, besting many of the other performance cars on the roads.

Lexus loaded the LFA with plenty of other technological goodies to make driving the car an experience to remember. Carbon-ceramic brakes provide quick stopping power and they don’t fade over time. The car also comes with traction control and stability control to help the driver keep the car going straight, even during less-than-ideal conditions. In the event of a collision, the LFA has the usual safety cage and assortment of airbags, as well as inflatable seatbelts that offer additional protection.

One of the best features of the Lexus LFA is its ultra-futuristic interior. The driver gets to feast his eyes on beautiful digital gauges that are works of art. The seats, dashboard, center console and other interior parts are unique to the car and provide an even higher-end look and feel than what’s found in other Lexus vehicles. The steering wheel has a flat bottom to it, as well as leather grips on each side and the engine ignition button, giving the driver a luxurious race car style experience.

LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR SUPERVELOCE: LET THE SUN SHINE IN!

- Senin, 29 Juni 2015 No Comments

With the Goodwood Festival of Speed as a backdrop, Automobili Lamborghini has announced a roadster version of its Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce.

The Aventador Superveloce coupé version made its UK debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, on display and running 'up the hill', with Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann in attendance.

Speaking at Goodwood, Stephan Winkelmann, left, confirmed production of the Superveloce Roadster. "The Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce is the most pure, sports-oriented and emotional incarnation of a Lamborghini, and all 600 units have been sold, with first deliveries starting now. We will also produce a roadster version, limited to 500 units, which our dealers worldwide are now taking orders for."

The Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce was shown at Geneva motor show earlier this year. The Superveloce accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of more than 217 mph. Compared to the Aventador LP 700-4 the power output of the Superveloce has been increased by 50 horsepower and the weight reduced by approximately 110 pounds.

Porsche 918 Spyder Burns While Fueling

- Jumat, 03 Oktober 2014 No Comments

The latest fad in supercars is to let them burn to the ground. Really, it was a fashion that was started by Ferrari long ago, but others have been joining in lately, such as the prototype Acura NSX that burned at the Nurburgring.

This time, it was a Porsche 918 Spyder that burned. The gasoline-electric hybrid car was being refueled at a Toronto-area gas station when it caught fire. Multiple people took photos of the inferno and posted them to Twitter, while at least one person captured the spectacle on video (warning: language):

As you can see from the video, the car is almost certainly a complete loss. The whole thing's enough to make me cry, but hearing the people on the video panic that the gas station might explode takes some of the edge off. Watch too many Hollywood movies lately?

Blogging From A to Z Day 11: K is for Koenigsegg

If you've never heard of Koenigsegg, you are missing out on a true automotive gem. The small Swedish automaker is a rising star in the industry, and it's starting to make waves by doing things on its own terms. The company has only been around since 1994, yet the super cars it produces makes Ferraris and Lamborghinis tremble in fear.
Just to look at a Koenigsegg is to view a thing is wild and slathered with carbon fiber parts, air intakes and aero parts. Under the skin are highly advanced mechanicals, including engines that scream so much power it is almost hard to believe. The company has pioneered a number of turbocharging innovations that I predict will impact automotive engineering for decades.

Case in point: the Koenigsegg's latest project, the One:1. The name has a meaning: 1 horsepower to 1 kilogram of curb weight. For those of you who aren't intimately familiar with power-to-weight ratios, that's insane. Literally, people in the automotive industry said such a feat was impossible, yet Koenigsegg is doing just that. The car stays planted on the ground thanks to numerous active aero parts (in other words, they move as the car speeds up). The car doesn't just have carbon fiber on the body and on the dashboard, but the freaking suspension springs and the wheels are made of carbon fiber!

Blogging From A to Z Day 4: D is for Diablo

Today, Lamborghini is known for wild, angular vehicle designs and price tags that equal what many people pay for their house. The Italian car company captured the world's attention in the 1970s thanks to the Countach, a supercar that was like none other. With the increased attention on the company came anticipation about what the raging bull would do next, meaning the next car had to be something spectacular.

That spectacular follow-up model was the Diablo.

Like all Lamborghini models, the Diablo's name came from the world of Spanish bullfighting. In Spanish, "Diablo" means "Devil" and it was a fitting name for the car that looked and performed in such a sinister way. The top brass at Lamborghini wanted the next model to be able to hit 320 kph, and the Diablo delivered with a top speed of 325 kph. The car was also able to throw down a 0 to 100 kmh dash in just 4.5 seconds, which would still make most modern cars look slow. The Diablo leveraged its 5.7-liter V12 engine, which came with four valves per cylinder and could push out as much as 492 horsepower.

Despite having some wild styling for the day, the Diablo's interior was famous for featuring some acreage of cheap plastic and controls that loved to break off in the driver's hand. I could make a joke about Chrysler's contribution to the cheap interior, but that would be a cheap shot. Thankfully, Audi ownership has meant Lamborghinis now have incredibly nice interiors.

As with other Lamborghini models, the Diablo was made in several different versions. One was the VT or Visco Traction, which had an all-wheel drive system for improved handling. The car helped pioneer a new era for Lamborghini, bringing the company into the 21st century and a bold new future.
