2012 American Le Mans Series (ALMS) Championship Corvette and a '63 Grand Sport are the subjects of this great museum show.
The Simeone Automotive Museum will present “Corvette Racing Legends” on November 16th and 17th, celebrating Corvette winning the 2012 ALMS Championship – its ninth ALMS manufacturer and team championship since 2001. Corvette Racing recently scored its 85th win in 140 ALMS races it has entered. Guest of honor for the event will be Doug Fehan, GM’s Corvette Racing Manager. On display outside will be the Corvette Racing display trailer,
featuring a C6.R show car, ZR1 chassis and 60th Anniversary 427 convertible, two engines,
and a gaming station.
Doug Fehan, right, is GM Racing program manager for the American Le Mans Series and is the heart and soul of Corvette Racing. His was the unseen hand behind Wayne Taylor’s 1996 IMSA World Sports Car title with Oldsmobile’s Aurora V-8 and Tom Kendall’s 1990 Trans-Am championship in a Chevrolet Beretta. He’s guided Corvette Racing to eight consecutive ALMS GT1 manufacturers and team championships in 2001-08, along with seven straight drivers championships with Ron Fellows, Johnny O’Connell, Jan Magnussen, Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta winning titles.
The weekend kicks off with a dinner Friday evening, November 16 with a presentation by Fehan on the 2012 racing season. On Saturday, November 17, a special presentation will take place on Corvette racing from the mid-1950s to the present by Dr. Simeone and Fehan. On display will be the museum’s ‘63 Corvette Grand Sport, #002. After the presentation, the Grand Sport will be taken out on the museum’s back lot and demonstrated.
