The Iso Grifo A3/L coupe followed by a convertible wowed spectators at international auto shows in 1963 and 1964, resulting in the Grifo going into production in 1965.
Styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro while at Bertone, the Grifo A3/L coupe, top, got rave reviews on the 1963 European show circuit encouraging Nuccio Bertone to push for an open version for shows in 1964. While the basic lines and styling of the Grifo prototype, built on a shortened Rivolta GT chassis were retained for Grifo production, above, many subtle and not-so-subtle features never saw production.
Our good friend Mike Gulett compares the one-of-one A3/L coupe with the production 1965-1974 Grifo at My Car Quest, http://mycarquest.com/2012/10/the-iso-grifo-prototype-style-compared-to-the-production-iso-grifo.html
